Anime Adaptation from the Manga Dogs Bullets and Carnage. After waiting for months, the Ova Series finally arrived!!! Each OVA deals with the one of the four Main Characters and their stories. OVA 1 and 2 are currently running.

OVA 1: Mihai Mihaeroff

A retired assassin with a comical bad sense of direction. Despite being considerably older than the rest of the cast he retains a muscular build with scruffy facial hair and scars all over his body. Due to his years of experience as an assassin he remains calm under pressure. He has a long-standing friendship with Kiri, the owner of the local restaurant and former prostitute. Ten years prior to the start of the story he was a hired gun for a mobster and became mentor to the boss’ son, a psychologically disturbed young man named Ian. At that time Mihai was romantically involved with a prostitute named Milena, but the relationship ended when Ian grew into his teens and brutally murdered her after intercourse. During the story of Dogs, Mihai confronted Ian and failed to protect him during an assassination attempt. He has since aided Badou’s escape from gangsters.

OVA 2: Badou Nails – Gun Smoker

Don’t ever come between a Man and his Smokes! LMAO!

Let’s see… what can we say about Badou’s character? Downright hilarious! Badou Nails is a chain smoking freelance journalist and photographer turned gun for hire who often gets into humorous, but dangerous situations through work and his addiction to nicotine. However, his comical mood swings gloss over the otherwise serious nature of his character. He wields a pair of Ingram MAC-10 Machine pistols.

In the ‘reel’ world, there would be a whole lotta Badou characters running rampant from nicotine fits. Poor thing looses his smokes, gets chased and shot at, goes into Nicotine withdrawn, finally gets a cigarette, only to have it shot out of his mouth! Tell me that’s not funny! And to make matters worse, his camera was destroyed. LOL!

This was a good one. So the next time I see a friend, stranger or anybody who’s going through a nicotine fit, I’ll visualize them in an Anime world and then quickly moved out of their way!

Ova 3: Blade Maiden

Look beyond just living for vengenance…

A young girl and her parents are running away from something or someone that she did not understand why. Out of the shadows appears a shining Kantana wielded by a man. The girl’s parents were slaughtered in the most vicious way, and she was left seriously injured. Just as she thinks she’s about to die, a man appears asking her if she wanted to live. He was carrying a Kantana, the one that looked like it had killed her parents and injured her. Seeing it and the man, gave her the will to live…

The girl was taken in by this Stranger* and given a knife to used to protect herself in the world. With the new knife, she charges after him and he trips her and she falls. He tells her to use an enemy’s mistakes against them. He goes on to ask her if she hated him, wanted to kill him and that it was good for to keep her murderous intent so that she doesn’t end up an empty shell. She had no knowledge of who she was, the remembrance of her parents, or even her name. He gave her the name, Naoto. The two were interrupted by another man. He introduces himself as Magato, who was an associate of the stranger. He tells her that she’s the second Naoto.

Over a few years, she trained hard with the Stranger. One day after as session, Magato approaches her and he tells her that her murder intent consumes her day and night and asked if she wanted to kill him [the Stranger] that bad. She wanted to know was he trying to say something, and Magato replied that he was only praising her, and that she has grown up to be quite the beauty. He touches a lock of her hair and she smacks his hand away and tells Magto not to touch her. Magato grabs her hand and twists her around behind her. He asked her if she had been cut by a Kantana. He brings forth a knife and cuts open her shirt exposing her chest where scarred was. Magato laughs and stated that he knew the wound was from him and that he knew it was his swordmanship. Naoto tries to fight him off. Suddenly the Stranger appeared and Magato stated that he was joking around and the Stranger asked if the knife that was pointed at his crotch was a joke too. Magato replied that he surrenders. The Stranger asked why haven’t he been working lately and Magato stated that he was waiting for the right card to fall into his hands and leaves. The Stranger takes off his coat and covers Naoto with it. He takes his leave, and Naoto notices that his shoulders seemed small.

One day Naoto delivers a paper to Buon Viaggio [notice the other characters sitting at the table?]. Later she returns to the dwelling and finds the Stranger dead. His right arm and left leg was cut off and there was a knife plunged into his chest. This shocks her. Magato appears rejoicing that he had finally became an adult and won against the Stranger. Naoto goes into a rage and the two begin to fight. At one pointed, Magato bested her by knocking her knife out of her hand and it landed wedged into the wooden ceiling. He tells her that she was free and that living for vengeance was pretty gloomy, and she should take what she had learned and live her life. Magato offers her to come with him and they should reconciled. Naoto grabs a rock in her hand and replied that she hated people like him. She throws the rock at her knife where it falls to the ground and both race towards the knife. After a few wielding of their weapons, Naoto blocks Magato’s Katana with her hand, and slices him in his side.

As a reward for beating him, he tells her that the one that attacked her and killed her parents was not the Stranger that sat there dead, but the first Naoto who was living in the underworld. A shocked and surprised Naoto realized that the two of them knew and hid it from her. She asked Magato why. He tells her that living for vengenance was a stupid and worthless life, and that he tried to live a life with no regrets. He goes on to say the Stranger gave her a reason to live. He gives his Katana to her and a serious injured Magato limps away, stating he was going to choose his own resting place and if he’s lucky, they will meet again. Naoto is left alone with the dead Stranger. Sitting next to the corpse, she asked him why did he keep taking all her hatred over the years and didn’t say anything about it. She tells him that he gave her the name Naoto and yet not once did he called her by that name. As tears flowed down her face, she asked why did he give her his coat.

End of episode.

*Since his name was never given, he’s being called the “Stranger.”Great Episode! The fighting scenes were awesome and it was a good storyline. There better be a series produced after these OVAs! One more character to go and then that’s it.

Ova 4: Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark (Final)

The fourth and last installment of Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling in the Night series. Awesome… it really was! Technically the name of the final OVA is “Stray Dogs Howling in the Night…”

Heine is trolling the underworld searching for an entrance that was lost: his memory. Walking down an alley way, a run away prostitute is trying to escape her captors. The two men finally captures her and struggled her to the ground. Heine takes in this scene momentarily and then begin to walk away until one of the captors rips a hooded rag cloth she was wearing, exposing some “angelic wings.” Seeing the wings, prompted him to attack the captors knocking them out afterwards. He takes the girl to a motel where she showers and he ponders why he had gotten himself involved. The girl is a genetic engineered mutant. Something that he has seen countless times. Unbeknowst to Heine is that one of the pursuer is outside the motel location calling the boss, while the other pursuer faces him [Bossman named Miguel] and gives him the information he wants and then Miguel shoots the guy. He rallies his crew to get ready to go retrieve the girl.

Heine questions the girl and realizes that she cannot speak. He asked her age and she hand signs “fourteen.” One of the things about genetic engineered beings is that something is taken away from them to prevent them from committing suicide and save themselves from their miserable existence. Heine lets her know that he is the same as she and she walked over to him to touch him when all of a sudden he began freaking out and yelling at her not to touch him. In the interim, he has a flashback of a girl named Lily. Falling to his knees covering one of his eyes, the door bursts open and two men with guns enters the room. Heine take out his guns and shoots them. As the two prepared to leave the room, he barely takes one foot over the threshold when he’s shot by Miguel with a shotgun. Miguel shoots him again sending him wielding towards the window where Heine falls out of it and lands on his back dead. The girl passes out and Miguel catches her. Before leaving, he throws a book of matches out the window and it lands on Heine’s chest. Seconds later, red lightening appears and Heine sits up. He reads the name on the matches and he’s pissed.

The scene cuts to a church where he enters facing Badou and a Priest. Badou is bitching at him about a job while Heine changes out of his leather jacket into a new one while grabbing some weapons. He passes Badou and grabs his ponytail telling him he was going with him. Reaching the desinated place, he gives Badou two automatic weapons and takes his cigarette. (Remember… Badou goes crazy when he doesn’t have his nicotine!) Heine leaves Badou outside while he enters the establishment. Cursing to himself, two of Miguel’s hencemen approaches him, thinking he’s a junkie! [LOL] Badou opens fire injuring the two men. Inside a room with the girl, Miguel hears the gun fire and opens the door where she escapes. Running down the hall with Miguel chasing behind her, the girl runs into Heine who yells for her to get down. He opens fire at Miguel and the two engage in a gunfight. Heine is shot numerous times, and at one point, it seemed that he was out of bullets and Miguel shoot him a final time. Heine smiles and points his other gun at Miguel and shoots him. As Miguel sat on the floor dying, he asked Heine about himself. Heine shows Miguel a metal piece that seemed screwed into this neck. He spits out the bullets that Miguel shot him with and told him next time to aim for his head.

Heine almost seemed warm hearted in that part. o.o

Miguel died. Downstairs, Badou is bitching at the wounded men about how long he had to stay there and they replied they didn’t know. Heine takes the rescued girl back to the church where the Priest had her dressed up in some number… a junior nun? [Gomen... I'm just reaching here.] The Priest gets all excited and Heine questions whether he was actually blind or not… the girl runs and hide behind Heine and the priest notices that she is touching him. See, Heine suffers from a condition called Gynophobia – Fear of women. Heine stated that she was okay. She take ahold of Heine’s hands and etched her name, “Nill.” Heine leaves her behind with the Priest. Walking down the streets in the sea of people, a stranger states that he looked lively and asked if he remembered Lily. Time stops as Heine draws his gun. The stranger was a bit too fast — he was in Heine’s face in no time. He asked Heine was he comfortable with his life, did his neck hurt, was it throbbing at the very moment. He also mentioned Heine having Kerberos inside of him before slowly disappearing in golden fragments. Heine vowed to take them all on.

End of episode.

I will be totally pissed if the manga Dogs Bullets and Carnage does not get green lit for a series. This ova series was excellent! After waiting for so long for it to finally come out, it was not a let down. Haven’t read the manga… to which I think I probably should, so if anybody got any scans to share, or know of the fansub groups that scanlating, please let me know. K?
